Jesus Christ is a good choice among many good choices. He was a great religious leader among many great religious leaders throughout world history. These views are acceptable – these types of statements wouldn’t be controversial.
?In our pluralistic society you are allowed to have firm beliefs – strong convictions, as long as you don’t claim exclusive knowledge or that only one way is right. If you do that you are labeled a narrow minded religious bigot. So we feel the pressure to downsize Jesus. To shrink him so that He fits on the same shelf as Allah, Confucius, Buddha, Hare Krishna and the rest.
?Paul settled things pretty clearly when he wrote to the believers in ancient Philippi:
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
? and gave him the name that is above every name,
? that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
? in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
? and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
? to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11
If we believe the Bible, then downsizing Jesus is not an option.
