Racine Half Ironman

I can’t believe it’s almost here! It seemed so far away when I signed up in November. This Sunday, 7/15, I will be competing in my first ever triathlon. I’ll be racing the Ironman 70.3 – Racine, WI. Training began January 1st, so it’s been 6.5 months of work to get ready for this race. The race consists of  a 1.2 mile swim, then a 56 mile bike ride, and finishes up with a 13.1 mile run (half marathon).  I’ll begin the race around 8am and hope to be done by 2pm. Although, if it’s hot and humid, all time goals are out and I’ll just focus on finishing on my feet :). I’m super excited, but nervous. I know I can comfortably do each of the distances, but the cumulative affect of doing them back to back to back is new territory. I’ll be racing with my friends Chris and Bill, and with my brother (Nick) and Dad (Mike). We’d appreciate your prayers. You can pray for:

  • Safety – traveling to and from, and during the race
  • Health – no last minute colds/viruses
  • Endurance – we’re well trained, but it’s a long race
  • Good weather/conditions – calm waters in Lake MI, low humidity, no rain/storms.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I fell in love with endurance sports (specifically distance running) 3 years ago when I began running to lose weight. 3 years ago, this is a race that I only dreamed of being able to do. I’m so thankful for the opportunity I’ve had to train with good friends and family and look forward to completing the journey together on Sunday.
